The Philly Show is back this weekend at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, and Cardvestr is gearing up for a major hunt.
After a quiet start to March with no new acquisitions, we’ve been keeping our powder dry for a reason. There is no better place to find the right additions for a long-term portfolio than a massive, three-day event like this. With over 140,000 square feet of floor space across Halls A, B, and E, we’ll be on the ground from March 6th through the 8th.
The Strategy: Hunting for “Sport Card Aristocrats”
At Cardvestr, we aren’t chasing the flavor of the week or high-risk “prospecting” cards. Our focus for this show is clear: The Aristocrats.
These are the blue-chip, investment-grade cards that have stood the test of time—names like Jordan, Brady, Jeter, and Gretzky. We are looking for those “heavy hitters” that anchor a serious collection. Specifically, our eyes are on:
- Vintage Classics: There is something about the “Philly Show” that brings out the best vintage dealers in the Northeast. We’ll be hunting for high-eye-appeal vintage from the 50s, 60s, and 70s—the kind of cards where the value is grounded in history, not just hype.
- Graded Value: While we love a PSA 10 as much as anyone, we’re looking for the “Great Values” often found in PSA 7 or 8 grades for iconic cards (like our recent Jerry Rice and Ken Griffey Jr. additions). We also remain grade-agnostic for the right deal, keeping an eye out for BGS-graded “Aristocrats” that might be undervalued compared to their PSA counterparts.
Why We Wait for the Show
Buying online is convenient, but nothing beats the ability to see a card in person, check the centering under a loupe, and negotiate face-to-face. Since we haven’t bought anything yet this month, we are heading into Oaks with a full budget and a disciplined “buy list.”
Show Details
If you’re heading out to the Expo Center, here is what you need to know:
- Where: Greater Philadelphia Expo Center (Oaks, PA) – Halls A, B & E.
- When: We’ll be there Friday (1:00 pm – 8:00 pm), Saturday (9:30 am – 5:30 pm), Sunday 9:30 am – 3:00 PM.
- Pro Tip: If you’re looking for us, we’ll likely be near the vintage booths or checking out the latest submissions at the Nashcards table.
The goal for this weekend isn’t just to buy cards; it’s to find the right assets at the right price. We’re looking to make “great deals”—the kind where the value is locked in the moment the transaction is finished.
Stay tuned for our post-show wrap-up to see which Aristocrats made the cut for the Cardvestr portfolio!
